Mayor Acharya recovering from balloon explosion injuries, delays return to work

POKHARA: Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya has stated that it will take some time before he can resume his regular duties after being injured in a balloon explosion.

The incident occurred during the official announcement of Pokhara Visit Year 2025 on February 15, organized by Pokhara Metropolitan City.

Acharya sustained burns on both hands, as well as his neck and face.

According to him, doctors have advised rest to ensure proper healing. Although he was discharged from the Burn Hospital in Kirtipur on the 9th after six days of treatment, he remains under regular medical follow-up.

“I have not been able to return to regular work yet, but I am gradually improving. Today, the dressing on the wounds on my hands will be removed, and I hope to return to work by next week,” he told Khabarhub on Monday. “The burn wound is taking time to heal, especially since I have diabetes, which slows the recovery process.”

Acharya revealed that while the pain and burning sensation have reduced due to medication, doctors have advised him to avoid public exposure to minimize the risk of infection.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, who was also injured in the same incident, has already resumed his duties as of Sunday.
