Three levels of govt to coordinate on urban and waste management policy



KATHMANDU: The federal, provincial, and local governments of Nepal have agreed to enhance coordination for the effective implementation of the National Urban Policy 2024 and the Solid Waste Management National Policy 2023.

This decision was made during the Urban Development Committee meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister, Prakash Man Singh, on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by ministers from all seven provinces, mayors of municipalities, rural municipality chairpersons, the Chairperson of the Kathmandu Valley Mayors’ Forum, and heads of various departments under the Ministry of Urban Development.

Minister Singh highlighted the importance of deepening coordination and interrelations among the three tiers of government to strengthen federalism in Nepal.

The meeting also discussed key legislative matters, including the Bill Related to the High-powered Bagmati Civilization Conservation and Development Committee, the Bill to Amend the Town Development Fund Act, 1997 and the Bill Designed to Amend and Consolidate the Laws Related to Urban Development.

This was the second meeting of the Urban Development Committee, with the first meeting held on February 28, 2024.
