Maoist Center launches Tarai-Madhesh awareness campaign

JHAPA: The Maoist Center has launched the ‘Tarai-Madhesh Awareness Campaign’ from Kachankawal in Jhapa.

The campaign, which began today, will span across the Tarai-Madhesh region, concluding in Kanchanpur on March 20.

Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, along with the party’s central leadership, arrived in Jhapa to inaugurate the campaign.

On Sunday night, the leaders stayed at the homes of party cadres and local residents, as part of the campaign’s policy to avoid hotels and stay connected with the community.

Ranjit Tamang, in-charge of the Maoist Center in Jhapa, stated that this approach was meant to strengthen ties with the local populace.

The campaign team includes Chair Dahal, Senior Vice Chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha, General Secretary Dev Gurung, Deputy General Secretaries Janardan Sharma, Barshaman Pun, Shakti Basnet, as well as other district and provincial leaders.

The Maoist Center initiated this campaign to reconnect with the people, acknowledging that their party had distanced itself from grassroots supporters.

During the campaign, they aim to raise awareness among the public, oppose the government’s wrongdoings, and highlight their achievements from their time in government.

On the first day of the campaign, Dahal led a morning walk with over 200 leaders and cadres.

The walk began at Sagarmatha Chowk in Prithvinagar, passed through Kichchak Badh, and returned to Sagarmatha Chowk via Charali, covering a distance of 6.5 kilometers in two hours from 5:30 am to 7:30 am.

Dahal has made it a routine to engage in morning walks during his travels across the country since stepping down as Prime Minister last Ashar.
