ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup: Nepal secures consolation win over Malaysia



KATHMANDU: Nepal registered a consolation victory in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, defeating Malaysia by 7 wickets in their play-off match.

Malaysia, who batted first after winning the toss, set a modest target of 46 runs. They were bowled out for 45 runs in 16.5 overs, with Nuriman Hidayah top-scoring with 15 runs.

Nepal chased down the target comfortably, reaching 46/3 in just 11 overs. Captain Puja Mahato played an unbeaten knock of 23 runs, while Simana KC remained not out on 4 runs.

Puja Mahato was the standout performer with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 9 runs in 3.5 overs, leading her team to victory. Rachana Chaudhary supported with 3 wickets, while Simana KC and Riya Sharma each claimed 1 wicket.

Mahato’s performance has also made her the highest wicket-taker in the group stage and play-off matches of the tournament, with 9 wickets in four matches. However, with the Super Six and semi-final matches still to be played, other players may surpass her as the competition progresses.

Nepal had faced defeats in the group stage against Bangladesh, Scotland, and Australia. Despite the loss, their win against Malaysia adds a positive note to their campaign.
