Japan’s new ambassador vows to strengthen ties with Nepal

KATHMANDU: Japan’s newly appointed Ambassador to Nepal, Maeda Toru, has pledged to further strengthen the long-standing relations between the two countries during his tenure.

Presenting his credentials to President Ram Chandra Poudel on Thursday, Ambassador Toru emphasized his commitment to enhancing bilateral ties. During their meeting, the two discussed the enduring friendship and cooperation between Nepal and Japan, according to a statement from the Japanese Embassy in Nepal.

Nepal and Japan formally established diplomatic relations in September 1956, and the two nations are set to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2026.

Japan has been a significant partner in Nepal’s development journey, particularly as the largest donor to Nepal’s infrastructure sector.

Additionally, Japan remains a sought-after destination for Nepali students and youth seeking education and employment opportunities.
