44 parties register with EC for March 5 HoR election



KATHMANDU: A total of 44 parties have registered at the Election Commission (EC), as of today, to participate in the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5, 2026, of which 10 are new.

The Election Commission has stated that parties wishing to participate can register from November 17 to 26, leaving only four days (including today) for registration.

Meanwhile, over 837,000 voters have been newly registered in Nepal. According to the Commission, as of November 21, as many as 837,094 voters had applied for registration, reflecting enthusiastic participation in the lead-up to the elections.

Notably, the second-largest party in the Parliament, the UML, has not yet submitted its party registration. The Nepali Congress decided only yesterday (Saturday) to participate in the March 5, 2026, elections, while the CPN-UML continues to advocate for the restoration of the House of Representatives.

In addition, the National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 25, 2025. The Election Commission has opened applications for party registration for both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly elections. Of the 19 National Assembly seats up for election, only eight parties have registered so far.

As of Friday, the total number of parties registered with the Election Commission has reached 129, including 10 newly registered parties, while some others have been deregistered.

Even previously registered parties are legally required to re-register to participate in the elections. The parties that have applied to participate in the March 5, 2026 elections include:
