Rs 150 million worth of projects implemented for irrigation and landslide control



DAMAULI: The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project, Bhanu Tanahun, has implemented projects worth over Rs 150 million for irrigation and landslide control this fiscal year. According to the office, various schemes amounting to Rs 157.5 million have been launched under the program.

Project Chief Supindra Khatri said that a total budget of Rs 30 million has been allocated for five major projects. These include the Dasdhunga–Trishuli River Large Lift Irrigation Project in Devghat Rural Municipality–5, the Jarayo Khola Canal Irrigation Project, the Shishaghat Valley Lift Irrigation Project in Byas Municipality–6, the Bhanu Chundi Varah Irrigation Project in Bhanu Municipality–4, and the

Taar Bazaar Conservation Program in Shuklagandaki Municipality. Likewise, Rs 30 million has been allocated for the Galeshwor Ashram Tatopani Landslide Control Project in Devghat Rural Municipality–5.

Similarly, a budget of Rs 7.5 million has been set aside for controlling the Marsyangdi and Daraudi rivers. The office operates in Tanahun, Lamjung, Manang, and Gorkha districts.

The project was initially established in fiscal year 2075/76 as the Palungtar–Kundutar Irrigation Project, aimed at implementing the Palungtar and Kundutar irrigation schemes. In fiscal year 2081/82, it was renamed the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Office, Gorkha, covering Tanahun, Gorkha, Lamjung, and Manang.

In the current fiscal year 2082/83, it was transferred and restructured as the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project, Bhanu Tanahun.

Chief Khatri added that the office is conducting necessary studies and surveys for the construction of irrigation structures across the four districts.

It is also carrying out embankment, spur, and revetment construction in flood-prone areas along the Daraudi, Dordi, and Marsyangdi rivers, along with land development, river control, irrigation, and river management works.
