Ninety percent of Doda River bridge construction completed

KANCHANPUR: Around 90 percent of the construction work on the bridge being built over the Doda River in Kanchanpur has been completed.

According to Harish Prasad Joshi, Information Officer at the Road Division Office in Mahendranagar, the project aims to finish by the end of December. The superstructure of the bridge has already been completed, and work is currently underway to build retaining walls and fill soil on both sides of the bridge, he said.

The total estimated cost of the bridge project is Rs 247.38 million. A contract worth Rs 243.92 million was signed with the Lumbini-Rajendra-Kumar-Shrestha JV for its construction.

Joshi noted that progress may be affected due to limited funding. Only Rs 4 million has been allocated for the current fiscal year, whereas an additional Rs 40 million is required to complete the project.

Locals have long faced difficulties crossing the Doda River in the absence of a bridge, often risking their safety. Once completed, the bridge is expected to greatly ease transportation for residents of Lajhadi, Shuklaphanta, and Krishnapur, said local resident Bachchan Rana.
