Home Secretary Duwadi removed, Dangal appointed as replacement

KATHMANDU: The government has removed Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi from his post and appointed Rameshwor Dangal as the new Home Secretary.

Duwadi, who is accused of playing a key role in the suppression of the recent Gen-Z movement, has been reassigned. Prior to this appointment, Dangal was serving as Defense Secretary.

Sources at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers indicated that the decision will be implemented by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Duwadi had previously faced scrutiny in connection with the visit visa scandal but was granted immunity. He held the Home Ministry portfolio for about a week and a half before the change in government.

Amid growing public and political pressure for an investigation into the Home Ministry’s handling of the Gen-Z protests, the government has transferred Duwadi to the National Planning Commission Secretariat.
