Landslide blocks Muglin-Kathmandu road in Dhading

KATHMANDU: The Muglin-Kathmandu section of the Prithvi Highway has been completely blocked in both directions after a dry landslide struck the Jawang River area in Ward No. 10 of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality, Dhading.

According to the District Police Office, Dhading, the road was initially opened for one-way traffic following a landslide on Monday evening. However, a larger landslide occurred during the night, forcing authorities to shut the road completely.

Police say the continuous falling of debris has made it difficult to begin clearance work. As a result, hundreds of passengers and vehicle operators have been stranded since last night.

Authorities have urged travelers to remain calm, stay in safe areas, and maintain lane discipline while waiting for updates.

Just days earlier, traffic had come to a standstill for nearly 40 hours on the Muglin-Narayangadh section due to a major landslide near the Tuin River. While traffic had only recently resumed, the fresh disruption in Dhading has compounded difficulties for travelers.

The timing of the landslide is especially problematic, as thousands are currently on the move to their hometowns to celebrate the Dashain festival. The road closure has severely affected their journey, leaving many stranded and anxious.
