Man dies while electrofishing in Jhapa



JHAPA: A man lost his life on Friday morning after suffering an electric shock while electrofishing in Kankai Rural Municipality, Jhapa.

The deceased has been identified as Pankaj Majhi, 37, a resident of Kankai Municipality-1. According to police, he was attempting to catch fish using electricity in a local river when the accident occurred at around 8:30 am.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bijay Shrestha, Chief of the Area Police Office, confirmed the fatality, adding that an investigation into the incident is underway.

Authorities noted that such deaths have become more frequent in Jhapa in recent times, as electrofishing continues despite its risks and prohibition under existing laws.
