Embassy of Pakistan hosts Urdu poetry symposium in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu, in collaboration with the Sahitya Academy Nepal, organized a literary event titled “Aalmi Mushaira: Urdu, Shaairi Ki Zubaan” in Kathmandu.

The objective of the event was to highlight the literary and cultural ties between Pakistan and Nepal and to foster stronger people-to-people relations, particularly through cultural exchange.

Special guests included Siraj Ahmed Farooqi, Member of Parliament from CPN-UML, and Kalpana Miya, Member of Parliament from CPN-Maoist Center.

The event was attended by a wide range of Urdu enthusiasts, including politicians, intellectuals, social activists, and officials from the Embassy of Pakistan.

Renowned Urdu poets such as Dr. Zafar Eleeg, Dr. Saqib Harooni (President, Sahitya Academy Nepal), Dr. Afzal Manglori, Furqan Faizi, Musharaf Ali Khan, Zahid Azad Jhanda Nagri, Ghalib Dareeb, Altaf Farifta, and Sapna Ahsaas recited their poetry and received widespread acclaim.

Guests praised the Government of Pakistan for its efforts in promoting art and culture and acknowledged the embassy’s initiative to bring Urdu poets together and promote the Urdu language in Nepal.

Acclaimed Nepali film director and writer Prakash Sayami, in his remarks, emphasized the universality and richness of the Urdu language, particularly its poetic depth.

Abrar H. Hashmi, Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, expressed gratitude to the Sahitya Academy Nepal and participating poets for their contributions to Urdu literature. He stressed the importance of enhancing collaboration between the literary institutions of Nepal and Pakistan, particularly through literary exchange and the promotion of languages such as Urdu and Nepali.
