Alternate route also collapses on Butwal–Narayanghat Road

NAWALPARASI: The alternate route along the Butwal–Narayanghat section of the East-West Highway has been completely blocked, leaving all vehicular movement through Dumkibas area at a standstill.

Following the collapse of a bridge in Dumkibas, Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality–1, traffic had been diverted via a temporary embankment (diversion). However, continuous rainfall washed away the diversion earlier this week.

In response, small and medium-sized vehicles (up to 12 wheels) were being rerouted through an inner road network via Hongshi Gate, Sardi, and Jyamire. That route too has now become impassable due to a swollen stream in Binayi Tribeni–3, according to Superintendent of Police Yadav Dhakal.

As a result, the Dumkibas–Daunne stretch is currently entirely closed to traffic, stranding travelers on both sides. SP Dhakal confirmed that the water flow in the stream has become dangerously high due to ongoing monsoon rains, rendering even the alternate inner roads unusable.

Earlier, the Vinayi River diversion on the main highway was swept away by floodwaters, severely disrupting east-west connectivity. With both the main and alternate routes now out of service, there is no immediate passage through the region.

Travelers have been facing significant difficulties, with no reliable temporary structures or detours in place amid high river levels and weakened embankments. Authorities have yet to announce when repairs or traffic restoration might begin.kh
