Mechi Customs Office collects over Rs 14.43 billion in revenue

JHAPA: The Mechi Customs Office has collected Rs 14.43 billion in revenue in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year 2024/25. This figure accounts for 91.56 percent of the office’s annual revenue target for the same period.

According to Information Officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain, the revenue collection target for the 11-month period was set at Rs 15.77 billion. In comparison, during the same period in the previous fiscal year 2023/24, the target was Rs 16.67 billion, of which only 77.56 percent was achieved.

Petroleum products remain the leading source of revenue, contributing Rs 8.78 billion—around 60.81 percent of the total collection.

Revenue from imported vegetables stood at Rs 624.5 million, while transport vehicles and spare parts brought in Rs 407.4 million. Additionally, Rs 275.1 million was collected from mineral products, Rs 215.4 million from coffee, and Rs 207.7 million from lentils.

In terms of trade volume, the office recorded exports worth Rs 23.28 billion during the period, generating Rs 237.5 million in export-related revenue. Meanwhile, imports totaled Rs 40.77 billion, generating Rs 14.20 billion in revenue.

Officials say the customs office is on track to meet most of its fiscal targets, with improved performance compared to the previous year. The sharp increase in revenue collection has been attributed to better compliance, efficient customs processing, and rising import volumes—particularly of fuel and essential commodities.
