KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has launched a province-wide campaign aimed at identifying and resolving electricity supply issues through direct engagement with stakeholders.
The initiative, which began in Koshi Province, focuses on ensuring reliable power supply and addressing technical concerns raised by consumers.
NEA Managing Director Hitendra Dev Shakya kicked off the campaign from Biratnagar, where he held discussions on Thursday with local industrialists, business representatives, and distribution center heads.
Shakya spent much of the night inspecting sub-stations and distribution centers in the region. He also attended a ceremony to honor the top 10 electricity consumers under the Koshi regional office, recognized for their high consumption and timely payment of dues during the fiscal year 2024/25.
Speaking about the campaign, Shakya said he was motivated to counter rumors of power cuts circulating on social media by ensuring dependable electricity supply.
“The Authority’s primary focus is on reliable electricity distribution,” he said. “We held in-depth discussions in Biratnagar, focusing on dedicated feeders, supply reliability, and uninterrupted power service.”
Shakya said the NEA is committed to listening to complaints and addressing them promptly. “I’ve met with heads of all distribution centers in Koshi Province to review progress, identify problems, and discuss potential solutions,” he said.
He added that the NEA will continue the campaign in other major industrial hubs, including Birgunj, Bhairahawa, and Nepalgunj.
“We understand that the issues we perceive may differ from the experiences of industrialists and consumers. That’s why this campaign is also about understanding and resolving real issues,” he said.
Shakya further clarified that the campaign isn’t limited to discussions—it involves thorough inspections of substations and distribution centers to identify and address technical faults.
“In Koshi Province alone, I inspected four substations and several distribution centers,” he said. “We will carry on these inspections and dialogues in other areas as well.”
