KATHMANDU: A war of words has erupted between senior communist leaders as Bishnu Rimal, Deputy General Secretary of CPN-UML and Chief Political Advisor to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, publicly challenged Unified Socialist Party General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal to demonstrate that his own party is as good and capable as he claims.
Taking to social media on Tuesday, Rimal issued a pointed critique aimed at Bhusal, questioning his continued commentary on UML and other major parties instead of strengthening his own political outfit.
“Sir, you have truly become the General Secretary!” wrote Rimal. “If so, then why not make your own party look as good as you want, as you wish, as you imagine? Now what is this useless ranting for?”
Rimal’s remarks came after Bhusal, speaking at an event in Kathmandu commemorating the 76th anniversary of the Nepal Communist Party, launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Oli.
Bhusal accused Oli of manipulating mass gatherings to overshadow opposition dissent and failing to account for his actions in government and within the party.
“All who gather at the April 24 rally will also say — ‘I love you, KP.’ Not just affection, but accountability is what’s needed,” Bhusal said. “Give us an account of the party, the parliament, and the attacks on democracy.”
Rimal, in response, appeared both amused and frustrated, comparing Bhusal’s rhetoric to a song of youthful excitement — animated but lacking substance. He mocked the theatrics of Bhusal’s speeches, referencing his flamboyant gestures and dramatic delivery.
“Young singers of the time probably know what message that kind of song was meant to convey,” Rimal said. “I was reminded of that while seeing the General Secretary of ‘that’ party waving his arms and commenting on leaders of major parties.”
