Microfinance, loan-sharking victims launch Kathmandu-focused protest from today

KATHMANDU: Victims of microfinance institutions and loan-sharking have launched a Kathmandu-centered protest from Monday, demanding justice and relief from financial exploitation.

The protest has been jointly organized by the Land Rights Movement, the Nepal Microfinance and Financial Exploitation Struggle Committee, and the Nepal Farmers and Workers Movement Against Loan-Sharking.

As part of the protest, participants began a rally from Balkhu, marching through Tripureshwar and Shahid Gate before holding a corner assembly at Shanti Batika.

Organizers said the movement aims to draw the government’s attention to the problems faced by people affected by microfinance-related debt and illegal interest practices, and to press for concrete policy and legal measures to address their grievances.
