Cold morning grips Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley experienced a noticeable rise in overnight temperatures on Monday, with the minimum temperature increasing by about 2 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the initial reading taken at 5:45 am showed the valley’s minimum temperature at 7.3 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, the temperature at the same time was 5.6 degrees Celsius and later dropped slightly to 5.5 degrees Celsius at 8:45 am.

The official minimum temperature for Monday is being determined based on the 8:45 am reading, which may be lower than the temperature recorded earlier in the morning.

Meteorologists said minimum temperatures have increased slightly across the country, including in the Kathmandu Valley, compared to Sunday due to cloud cover during the night. They explained that cloudy skies at night tend to trap heat, resulting in higher morning minimum temperatures, while clear skies usually lead to cooler conditions.

The Division records minimum and maximum temperatures daily across the country. The minimum temperature is measured at 8:45 am, while the maximum temperature is recorded at 5:45 pm, representing the highest temperature reached during the day.
