UML rally disrupts traffic in Kathmandu; vehicles diverted

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML staged a major demonstration and rally in the capital today, causing significant traffic pressure in central Kathmandu.

The rally, organized as part of the party’s nationwide mass-mobilization campaign, converged around Bhrikutimandap and surrounding areas. Rajendra Gautam, chief of the UML’s Central Publicity and Publication Department, said the event marks the final phase of the party’s mobilization drive aimed at “protecting the constitution and democracy.”

The program, organized by the UML Bagmati Province Committee, set off from Exhibition Road, circled Ratnapark, and culminated in a mass assembly at Bhrikutimandap. UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, along with other top leaders, is scheduled to address the gathering.

The demonstration caused heavy traffic congestion around the rally route. According to Nawaraj Adhikari, Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, vehicle movement along affected stretches had to be diverted.

“Due to the rally, traffic flow has been obstructed. Vehicles are being diverted via Padmodaya Mode and the National Assembly Hall area,” he said.

Authorities have also advised commuters to use alternative routes as traffic around the Tundikhel perimeter may remain affected for some time.
