Simara returns to normalcy after clash between Gen-Z youths and UML cadres

KATHMANDU: The situation in Simara of Bara district, which had remained tense following a clash between Gen-Z youths and CPN-UML leaders and cadres on Wednesday, has gradually returned to normal.

The area had witnessed protests and road obstructions on Wednesday and Thursday, but tensions eased after a round of talks held on Friday evening between Gen-Z representatives and the Bara District Security Committee.

The confrontation erupted after Gen-Z groups demonstrated in Simara on Wednesday ahead of UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel and leader Mahesh Basnet’s scheduled visit from Kathmandu. The demonstration led to a clash between Gen-Z youths and UML cadres.

During the negotiations, the Gen-Z side presented a six-point demand, which includes the arrest and legal action against those who planned the incident, free medical treatment for the injured Gen-Z members, and action against the then District Police Chief, among other points.

Following an agreement between the Gen-Z group, Chief District Officer Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, and security agencies, all protest programs have been suspended until Monday.

With the withdrawal of protest activities, normal life in Simara began to resume from early Saturday morning. Locals were seen returning to their daily work as the area gradually regained calm.
