Prime Minister Karki pays tribute to national icon Shankhadhar Sakhwa

Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Wednesday offered floral tributes to the statue of national luminary Shankhadhar Sakhwa, the founder of the Nepal Sambat calendar. She paid homage at Sakhwa’s statue in Madhyapur Thimi earlier this morning. Before that, the Prime Minister had addressed a programme organised by the Nepal Sambat 1146 Nhuda Celebration Committee at Mangalbazar, Lalitpur.

PM Karki urges national cooperation for free and fair elections

Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has appealed for cooperation from all sectors to ensure the successful conduct of the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5, 2026. She made this appeal while addressing a program organized at Mangal Bazaar in Lalitpur on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1146. Emphasizing that the government is committed to creating a conducive environment for the people to exercise their voting rights, the Prime Minister called on citizens to fulfill their responsibility as conscious participants in democracy.

GenZ group files complaint against PM Sushila Karki, demands legal investigation

A faction affiliated with the GenZ Movement has lodged a formal complaint demanding a legal probe against Prime Minister Sushila Karki, accusing her of seizing power unconstitutionally and betraying the spirit of the GenZ uprising. According to the group, Rabi Kiran Hamal submitted a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Tuesday, calling for immediate investigation into what they described as Prime Minister Karki’s unlawful rise to power.

Autopsy confirms Bipin Joshi was shot in the head

Nepali student Bipin Joshi was found to have died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to Israel’s Ambassador to Nepal, Shmulik Eri Bass. Ambassador Bass said the National Forensic Science Institute of Israel confirmed that Joshi’s death resulted from a gunshot injury. “Until a few weeks ago, we had hoped Bipin was alive. But the latest forensic test has confirmed that he was shot in the head,” Bass said, claiming Joshi was killed while under Hamas captivity.

Political dialogue has created atmosphere for election: Minister Kharel

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel has said that the all-party political dialogue convened by Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Tuesday helped create a conducive environment for the upcoming parliamentary elections. It was the first time since the formation of the interim government that major political parties and the government held direct discussions aimed at ensuring an atmosphere conducive to free and fair elections and promoting good governance.

Baluwatar confrontation exposes growing trust deficit between Gen-Z and interim govt

A rift emerged on Tuesday between Gen-Z representatives and government officials during a round of talks at Baluwatar, participants said, prompting several Gen-Z delegates to leave the meeting and later voice fears for their safety and the integrity of the dialogue. The dispute,  which participants said unfolded during more than four hours of private discussion Prime Minister Sushila Karki granted to a Gen-Z delegation before the all-party talks, centred on the government’s alleged links with an NGO referred to as the Barbara Foundation.

What Home Minister Aryal meant by calling Oli’s actions ‘criminal negligence’

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has repeatedly accused former Prime Minister and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli of “criminal negligence” during his recent interviews and media briefings. Aryal, a lawyer-turned-politician who assumed the Home Minister’s position following the GenZ movement, has been critical of Oli’s handling of the incidents that occurred during the unrest.

Oli accuses government of conspiring against him

CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has alleged that the current government is plotting further conspiracies against him. Inspecting his fire-damaged residence in Balkot on Wednesday, which was attacked during the Gen-Z protests, Oli said he suspects the Home Minister holds a personal grudge against him and is preparing additional plans targeting him. Referring to the Home Minister’s recent interview, Oli remarked that “the government’s intention and direction have become clear.” He stated that the UML would not be distracted by what he called the “spectacle” of a suddenly formed government and reaffirmed his party’s commitment to restoring peace, order, and controlling corruption in the country.

Oli inspects burnt Balkot home, accuses Karki govt of shielding perpetrators

CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday visited his house in Balkot, Bhaktapur, that was set ablaze during the Gen-Z protests on September 9, and sharply criticised the Sushila Karki-led government, accusing it of protecting those responsible. Accompanied by his wife Radika Shakya, Oli inspected the damaged property and expressed anger over what he called the burning of public assets “in the name of the government.” He alleged that the administration was reluctant to act against the perpetrators and accused Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal of seeking to shield suspects.

Rastriya Swatantra Party presents five conditions during all-party talks

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) placed a five-point set of conditions during Tuesday’s all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Sushila Karki to discuss the country’s political situation and the upcoming elections. RSP Vice-Chair Dr Swarnim Wagle and Secretariat member Sobita Gautam represented the party at the meeting, which was held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar from 4:15 pm to 8:30 pm.

RPP calls for political consensus including monarchy before election

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has proposed forging a new national consensus that also includes the monarchy, arguing that such an understanding is essential before the country heads to the upcoming election. During the all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Tuesday, RPP General Secretary Rajendra Gurung and Spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha presented the party’s position, stressing the need for a comprehensive political agreement to address the ongoing crisis.

Korala Customs Office collects over Rs 3 billion in revenue since reopening of Nepal-China trade route

The Mustang Customs Office at the Nepal-China northern Korala border has collected revenue worth Rs 3.01 billion since the trade route officially came into operation on Bhadra 31. According to the office, the total collection as of Tuesday was Rs 3.01 billion, generated through imports and exports conducted via the Korala checkpoint, which resumed full-scale operation as a commercial route last month.

Youth Federation Nepal denies involvement in arson at former President Bhandari’s residence

The Youth Federation Nepal (Rastriya Yuwa Sangh Nepal), an organization affiliated with the CPN-UML, has objected to media reports linking it to the recent arson incident at the residence of former President Bidya Devi Bhandari. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the association said it had taken serious note of claims made by certain media outlets and social media users identifying Sonam Thebe, one of the alleged individuals involved in the incident, as a leader of the organization.
