RPP calls for political consensus including monarchy before election

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has proposed forging a new national consensus that also includes the monarchy, arguing that such an understanding is essential before the country heads to the upcoming election.

During the all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Tuesday, RPP General Secretary Rajendra Gurung and Spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha presented the party’s position, stressing the need for a comprehensive political agreement to address the ongoing crisis.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar from 4:15 pm to 8:30 pm, brought together representatives from 11 political parties.

According to RPP leaders, the aftermath of the Gen-Z protests of September 8 and 9 has created a historic opportunity for Nepal to correct past political mistakes. They argued that reconciliation among the country’s traditional institution of the monarchy, the transformative power of the Gen-Z generation, and the existing political parties is necessary to restore stability.

“We told the meeting that the Gen-Z movement and its aftermath should be seen as a historic opportunity to correct the country’s past weaknesses. A new understanding must be built among the monarchy, the Gen-Z generation, and the political parties before the March 5 election,” RPP Spokesperson Shrestha said after the meeting.

Prime Minister Karki, for her part, assured the party representatives that the government was committed to holding a fair, impartial, and inclusive election, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
