KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has urged the government to create a conducive and fear-free environment for the parliamentary elections scheduled for March 5.
During an all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Tuesday, the party drew the government’s attention to the need for stronger measures to ensure free and fair elections.
According to Maoist Centre Secretariat member Barshaman Pun, the party stressed the government must take immediate and effective steps to build an environment suitable for holding credible polls, as insufficient attention has so far been given to the issue.
The party reaffirmed its decision to participate in the upcoming elections and informed the meeting that it has already instructed its committees to update voter lists. It further stressed the importance of guaranteeing free, fair, and transparent elections on the announced date, free from intimidation and irregularities.
Stating that it has already begun election-focused campaigns, the Maoist Centre also called on other major political forces, including the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, to take timely initiatives toward creating a favorable electoral atmosphere.
The Maoist Centre was represented in Tuesday’s meeting by leaders Pampha Bhusal and Barshaman Pun.
