Cabinet expansion: Four ministers set to take oath

KATHMANDU: Only four ministers are scheduled to take the oath of office on Monday afternoon, following Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s cabinet nominations.

Former Supreme Court Justice Anil Kumar Sinha will assume the Industry and Law portfolio, Mahabir Pun will take charge of Education, Science and Technology, Madan Pariyar will become Agriculture Minister, and journalist Jagdish Kharel will lead the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

Dr. Sangita Mishra, initially recommended as Health Minister, will not be part of the Monday swearing-in due to controversies surrounding her prior tenure as a government official. Mishra had submitted her resignation from civil service in anticipation of the appointment.

Prime Minister Karki’s advisory team reportedly suggested deferring Mishra’s appointment in response to public sentiment and objections raised by Gen-Z activists. Discussions on Mishra assuming the Health Ministry are expected to continue in the coming days.
