Landslide hits Tuin river again; Narayangadh-Muglin road obstructed

CHITWAN: The Narayangadh-Muglin road section has been blocked once again due to a fresh landslide near the Tuin River last night.

The road had only just reopened at 4 PM on Sunday after being closed for 45 hours following a previous landslide on Friday evening. However, another landslide occurred at around 8 PM in the same location—Tuin River area of Ichhakamana Rural Municipality-6—causing fresh disruptions.

According to the District Traffic Police Office, Chitwan, landslide debris has continued to fall since last night, making it impossible to clear the road.

Chitwan Traffic Police Chief Gayatri Sharma said the situation remains unstable and clearance efforts have not yet resumed due to ongoing rockfalls.

As a precaution, the local administration had earlier issued a notice to halt traffic from 9 PM Sunday to 5 AM Monday, citing nighttime risks. However, the new landslide struck even before that directive came into effect.

The Tuin River area has become a chronic landslide hotspot. On average, over 10,000 vehicles travel this vital road daily, linking the capital to several districts in western Nepal.

While some passengers stranded during the previous closure have now reached their destinations, many others remain stuck due to the fresh obstruction. The Chitwan District Administration Office has urged travelers to use alternative routes until further notice.
