PM Oli disapproves of Bhandari’s liaison office in Thapagaun

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has expressed strong disapproval over the opening of a liaison office by former President Bidya Devi Bhandari in Thapagaun.

Speaking at a program held at the UML central office in Chyasal on Friday, Oli said he had never imagined that the former President would create problems for the party after completing her tenure.

“I never thought that a former President would act in ways that create friction within the party after leaving office,” Oli remarked.

“Are we now going to start opening party offices just to celebrate a birthday on June 28 next year? Will we mark the occasion by gathering individuals who are dissatisfied, those working against the party, and even those causing disruption from within?”

He criticized the establishment of what he described as a separate party office, calling it inappropriate and harmful to party unity. His remarks came in response to the recent inauguration of a “foundation office” by former President Bhandari on Thursday.

Oli also addressed recent speculation regarding Bhandari’s party membership, emphasizing that the UML has not revoked anyone’s membership.

He clarified that Bhandari automatically relinquished her UML membership upon assuming the presidency. “There are allegations that her membership was cancelled. The truth is, she gave up her membership when she became President. Issuing a receipt without validity by deceiving employees does not reinstate that membership,” Oli explained.
