Maoist Centre protests tax rate changes made without House’s consent



KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has objected to what it calls unauthorized changes to tax rates, accusing the government of bypassing Parliament.

Speaking at Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Maoist Centre Deputy General Secretary Barshaman Pun said reports had surfaced that tax rates were altered after the passage of the Finance Bill, raising serious concerns within the party.

Pun argued that tampering with tax rates outside the parliamentary process amounted to an economic crime. He warned that such actions undermine transparency and accountability in fiscal governance.

He further stressed that the Finance Minister must provide a clear explanation to Parliament on why the changes were made without legislative approval.
