Kulpani Green Park emerging as a destination for domestic tourists

DANG: Kulpani Green Park, located in Badhara, Gadhawa Rural Municipality-1 in Dang, is gaining popularity among domestic tourists. The park, developed by the Kulpani Community Forest Group, has become a regular attraction for visitors, thanks to its focus on wetland conservation and eco-tourism.

To promote tourism, the group has constructed an artificial water reservoir, a green park, and a wooden view tower. Statues of various animals including tigers, rhinos, deer, horses, and peacocks have also been installed, further enhancing the park’s appeal.

According to forest group chairperson Nawaraj Sharma, the number of visitors has steadily increased, with many coming to enjoy forest picnics and recreational activities.

A wooden bridge and a viewing tower built over the pond have become major highlights. Entry fees range between Rs 20 and Rs 30. Encouraged by rising income from tourism, the group plans to expand the park from its current 12 hectares to 20 hectares.

Chairperson Sharma shared that more than 51,000 people have visited the park so far. Efforts are also underway to establish a wood museum featuring traditional and eco-friendly wooden tools and artifacts, many of which are at risk of disappearing.

Items collected include traditional boats, coal containers, dhikki, plows, jiwan, and theki used in the Deukhuri region. However, due to the lack of appropriate storage facilities, the museum has yet to open.

Sharma emphasized the need for infrastructure investment to develop Kulpani as a destination that blends religious significance, wetland conservation, and tourism. He said that while there is strong potential, adequate support has not been received so far.

Local resident Sita Giri noted that many people visit the forest park during summer to enjoy the cool environment, take photos, and view the wildlife statues and boats. She added that although the park attracts crowds on weekends and public holidays, the lack of investment has hindered the construction of facilities such as a children’s park, animal enclosures, and proper fencing.
