KATHMANDU: Thirty-five Nepali youths, lured with false promises of employment and subsequently held captive in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, India, have been rescued.
According to the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, the rescue was carried out on Thursday following directives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The individuals were reportedly beaten, tortured, and extorted under various pretexts.
The rescue operation was conducted in coordination with Uttarakhand Police and the community-based organization KIN India.
The Embassy stated that several individuals involved in the incident have been arrested by the Uttarakhand Police, and further investigation is underway.
Efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue other Nepali nationals believed to be held in similar conditions in different parts of Uttarakhand.
The rescued individuals will be repatriated to Nepal after the completion of the necessary legal procedures.
