Anti-republican activities are unacceptable under any circumstances: Minister Gurung

KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said any activity against the federal democratic republican system is unacceptable under any circumstances.

Making public the decision of the Council of Ministers meeting held on May 20 at a press meet held at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology today, he said the federal democratic republic, with sovereignty vested in the people, was established on 15 Jetha, a day of pride and celebration for all Nepalis.

“So, it is meaningless for supporters of the former King to stage protest on the same day by challenging the democratic system,” he said.

While there is freedom to speak and protest in a democracy no one is allowed to undermine sovereignty or engage in violent activities, he clarified. “If violent activities escalate, the government can impose restrictions to protect the people,” Minister Gurung said.

Minister Gurung informed the media persons that the government has decided to approve the ‘Economic Reform Implementation Action Plan, 2082’ prepared to implement the suggestions of the ‘High-Level Economic Reform Suggestion Commission, 2081’.

Similarly, the government has decided to approve the Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee (Fifth Amendment) Order, 2062 BS, and to provide 12,658.60 square meters of land owned by the Surkhet Valley Urban Development Committee of the Ministry of Urban Development to the Karnali Province Government for the purpose of constructing the administrative building of the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Karnali Province.
