Hearing on Rabi Lamichhane’s habeas corpus petition continuing today



KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is set to hear a habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane on Thursday.

The petition, filed by Lamichhane’s wife, Nikita Poudel, on April 20, is scheduled for hearing before a joint bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Bal Krishna Dhakal.

A previous hearing on Tuesday was left inconclusive and deferred.

Lamichhane is currently in judicial custody in connection with a cooperative fraud case involving Supreme Cooperative in Butwal. The petition argues that his detention is unlawful.

On April 4, the Butwal bench of the High Court in Tulsipur ordered that Lamichhane be remanded in custody pending trial.

The writ names the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Rupandehi District Court, and the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur as respondents.
