Grade 12 exams postponed to May 4 under pressure from protesting teachers

The National Examination Board has postponed the Grade 12 exams following pressure from the Nepal Teachers’ Federation. Originally scheduled to begin this Thursday, the exams will now start on May 4, according to board chair Dr. Mahashram Sharma.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, the board had decided to proceed with the exams on the scheduled dates by mobilizing administrative staff.

Teachers to boycott grade 12 exam amid ongoing protest

Teachers who have been staging a sit-in protest in Kathmandu for the past 21 days have announced a boycott of the nationwide Grade 12 examination, scheduled to begin on April 24.

The Nepal Teachers’ Federation declared that neither teachers nor principals will participate in any exam-related responsibilities, even if the government proceeds by deploying administrative staff. The decision comes in response to what the Federation has described as the government’s failure to initiate meaningful dialogue to resolve the ongoing dispute.

PM Oli says former Education Minister Bhattarai resigned for health reasons

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has dismissed claims that Education Minister Bidya Bhattarai resigned due to internal disagreements, stating that she stepped down for health-related reasons.

Speaking at a program marking the 76th founding day of the Communist Party of Nepal, PM Oli expressed dissatisfaction over what he called “misleading speculation” surrounding Bhattarai’s resignation.

Civil service employee organizations issue 72-hour ultimatum over bill

Employee organizations have warned of launching strong protests if their 10-point demands are not addressed within 72 hours and the Civil Service Bill fails to move forward in Parliament.

During a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, Nepal Civil Service Employees Organization President Ambadatta Bhatta cautioned lawmakers that failure to incorporate their concerns in the bill would trigger the next phase of protests.

Gold price nears Rs 200,000 per tola

The price of gold in Nepal has surged to a record high, reaching Rs 197,900 per tola on Sunday, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Assocaition.

This marks an increase of Rs 6,900 compared to Monday’s rate.

Three children die after mother allegedly poisons them in Dhanusha

A tragic incident has unfolded in Basudevpattti village of Shahidnagar Municipality-5, Dhanusha, where a mother reportedly poisoned her three young children, leading to their deaths. Police suspect she also attempted to take her own life afterward.

The deceased have been identified as Aditya Sah (6), Aakriti Sah (4), and Aarusi Sah (2), children of local resident Sushil Sah. Preliminary reports suggest they died from poisoning.

Anjan Shakya denies reports linking her to Education Ministry appointment

National Assembly member Dr. Anjan Shakya has dismissed recent media reports suggesting she is being considered for the post of Minister of Education following the alleged resignation of current Minister Bidya Bhattarai.

Taking to social media, Dr. Shakya refuted the claims, calling the reports “misleading and imaginary.” She stated that she has no knowledge of or interest in the ministry in question, nor does she possess specific expertise in the education sector.

SC refers Rabi Lamichhane habeas corpus petition to joint bench

The Supreme Court has referred the habeas corpus writ filed on behalf of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane to a joint bench for further hearing.

A single bench of Justice Abdul Aziz Musalman issued the order on Tuesday following an initial hearing. The court will now conduct a joint bench hearing to decide on the legality of Lamichhane’s detention.

House committee engages trade unions in discussions on Federal Civil Service Bill

The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives held detailed discussions on Monday with representatives of various trade union organizations regarding the proposed Federal Civil Service Bill.

In the meeting, officials from six civil service-related trade unions presented a range of suggestions concerning civil servant appointments, promotions, transfers, and retirement benefits under the upcoming legislation.

Govt to rebuild Thame settlement devastated by climate disaster

The government has committed to the reconstruction of Thame settlement in the Sagarmatha region, which was severely affected by a glacial lake outburst flood last year.

Govt registers bill to establish Rs 100 billion alternative development finance fund

Bagmati Province spends only 32% of budget in nine months

The Bagmati Provincial Government has spent just 32.51 percent of its total budget in the first nine months of the fiscal year 2024/25, according to data released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Planning.

From Shrawan to Chait, the government spent 28.24 percent of its capital budget and 40.51 percent of its recurrent budget. In monetary terms, this amounts to Rs 10.49 billion on capital expenditure and Rs 10.49 billion on recurrent expenditure, totaling Rs 20.98 billion out of the allocated Rs 64.54 billion for the fiscal year.

RPP demonstrates near Kathmandu DAO
