‘Himali Sambad’ to begin in Jumla today

JUMLA: The Himali Sambad (Himalayan Dialogue) kicks off today at Khalanga Bazaar in Jumla district, with all preparations for the event now complete.

Govind Bahadur Shahi, Chair of the Dialogue Organizing Committee, stated that the event aims to highlight the pressing challenges facing the Himalayan region—locally, provincially, federally, and internationally.

Shahi, who also serves as Executive Director of the Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre, shared that youths from eight out of the ten districts in Karnali Province will participate in the dialogue.

“Young people, children, and members of marginalized communities will join discussions on critical issues such as environmental degradation, snowmelt, biodiversity loss, and the adverse impacts on local communities,” he said.

According to the Centre, the dialogue will bring together around 150 participants, including environmental experts, policymakers, representatives from Himalayan regions, journalists, social activists, and delegates from national and international NGOs, development partners, and government agencies.
