MANANG: A Border Out Post (BOP) is set to be established on the Himalayan border between Manang district and China to enhance border security and surveillance.

The BOP will be located in Phu village of Narpa Bhumi Rural Municipality -4 at an altitude of around 4,000 meters above sea level.

According to Chief District Officer (CDO) Matrika Acharya, the BOP aims to strengthen border crossing control, security measures, and crime prevention in the remote region.

The District Administration Office, Manang, has allotted 20 ropanis of government land on a long-term lease to the Armed Police Force (APF) for establishing the outpost.

During a handover ceremony on Thursday, the land lease certificate was formally presented to Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Force, Hira Bahadur GC, Commander of APF No. 32.

Speaking at the event, CDO Acharya stated that the leased land would facilitate the effective utilization of government property for the BOP’s infrastructure and operations.

The BOP will be manned by 35 armed police personnel, including a police inspector, and will work in coordination with the Narpa Bhumi Rural Municipality to maintain security.

Pradya Acharya, an official involved in the project, noted that the remote Phu area lacks road connectivity, making the establishment of the BOP crucial for border monitoring and controlling cross-border crime.

Apart from enhancing peace and security, the BOP is also expected to assist in disaster management and rescue operations, particularly in aiding tourists who may fall ill due to altitude-related issues such as typhoid fever.

As Narpa Bhumi Rural Municipality lies close to the autonomous Tibetan region of China, establishing the BOP is expected to significantly improve security and border management while fostering better coordination between local and security authorities.
