Armed Police Force turns 24

KATHMANDU: The Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has turned 24 years since its establishment.

During this period, the armed police force has focused its performance in border security, domestic security, revenue, customs and industrial security and disaster risk reduction.

The government has entrusted the APF with the responsibility for containing armed struggle, separatist activities and terrorist activities, enhancing border security, managing riots, carrying out disaster management and providing security of VIPs and establishments, revenue, customs and industrial security.

The APF which has a presence in all districts across the country is trying to establish itself as a ‘dedicated’ border security force.

The APF has been performing its duty through 254 border outposts in the border sharing with India and China.
APF joint spokesperson Shailendra Thapa said 201 BOPs have been set up along the country’s southern border, 22 in the east, 21 in the west and 10 in the north.

The police force has been carrying out border security and development programs in collaboration with the border security mechanisms of India and China to make border security effective.

The APF which has supported the state in the prevention of smuggling and import has contributed Rs 1.05 billion in revenue collection in the six months of the current fiscal year as compared to Rs 1.64 billion in the last fiscal year, said joint spokesperson Thapa.
