KATHMANDU: Chair of Rastriya Swatantra Party and former managing director of Gorkha Network Media Pvt. Ltd., Rabi Lamichhane, is set to appear in the Rupandehi court today regarding the Supreme Cooperative fraud case.

Lamichhane will provide his statement in court and may face a detention hearing on the same day.

Previously, while in police custody in Kaski, he was taken to Butwal on November 12 to record his statement after receiving an arrest warrant.

The case involves allegations of embezzling Rs 861.8 million belonging to 1,831 depositors of Supreme Cooperative. Charges were filed against 28 individuals in April, with Lamichhane included in a supplementary complaint.

Police investigations revealed over Rs 142.9 million from Supreme Cooperative was transferred to Gorkha Network Media Pvt. Ltd., while Rs 20 million was recorded as a loan in Lamichhane’s name.

Lamichhane had previously secured bail by depositing Rs 6.5 million in Kaski and Rs 6 million in Kathmandu. Following his court appearance in Butwal, he is also required to provide statements in Chitwan and Parsa districts.

Lamichhane arrived in Butwal yesterday to attend today’s court proceedings.
