UML undecided on welcoming Bamdev, opts for cooperation

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML remains undecided on whether to officially reintegrate former leader Bamdev Gautam into the party.

Gautam had held multiple discussions with Chair KP Sharma Oli regarding his return to UML.

In the 44th Secretariat meeting held on Tuesday evening, one of the four decisions included cooperating with Gautam’s National Unity Campaign.

However, it remains unclear whether this cooperation signifies his re-entry into the party or a temporary collaboration with his campaign.

The meeting also decided to run a ward-focused campaign effectively in the months of Magh, Falgun, and Chaitra, mobilizing the entire party structure under provincial and district committee plans.

Additionally, the Secretariat approved provincial committee nominations made by Gandaki, Karnali, and the Coordination Committee for Overseas Nepali Associations.

Another major decision was to hold the party’s Statute Convention from Bhadra 20 to 22, 2082, at the Sunrise Hall in Godawari, Lalitpur.

Regarding Gautam, the party decided to continue cooperation with his National Unity Campaign. Earlier, Gautam had told Khabarhub that Oli assured him of a respectful position within the party, describing their potential alliance as “two hearts beating as one.” However, his campaign suffered internal splits during his efforts to align with UML.
