JSP-N’s Ram Ashish Yadav elected Speaker of Madhesh Provincial Assembly

KATHMANDU: Ram Ashish Yadav of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP-N) has been elected Speaker of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly.

Yadav was elected on Sunday through a division of votes in the Provincial Assembly. Representing the seven-party ruling coalition, Yadav secured 72 votes in favor, while 24 votes were cast against him.

Following the approval of the first proposal and Yadav’s election, Deputy Speaker Babita Raut Isar informed the Assembly that it was no longer necessary to table the proposal for UML candidate Triloki Prasad Yadav.

The Speaker’s post fell vacant after former Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal, elected from the UML, was removed from office on Mangsir 3 by a two-thirds majority on charges of failing to maintain conduct befitting the position.
