Mahesh Bartaula accuses Home Minister of undermining peace

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Mahesh Bartaula has accused Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal of being the country’s main obstacle to peace and security, alleging that the minister’s actions threaten public safety and political stability ahead of the upcoming elections.

Speaking to reporters, Bartaula claimed that a genuine investigation into recent unrest would reveal Aryal as the main gardener behind the violence during the Gen-Z youth protests, which saw infiltrations and destruction despite being initially peaceful.

“Home Minister Aryal has not been able to rise above jealousy, envy, frustration, and anger,” Bartaula said, criticizing Aryal for showing no concern in recovering looted weapons, boosting police morale, or addressing escaped prisoners.

He added that Aryal remains indifferent even as daily incidents of killings and violence continues, instead pursuing actions that destabilize the country and provoke unrest.

Bartaula further accused the minister of attempting to incite former prime ministers, senior leaders, and political parties, spreading misinformation and inflammatory statements to create confusion. “Aryal seems to believe that by sitting on his ministerial chair he can delay the execution of the mandate for the March 5 elections,” he said.

The CPN-UML leader described Aryal as a “licensed lawyer advocating for cow slaughter to stir religious unrest” and claimed the minister is unaccountable to the country, its citizens, or the constitution.

“Without faith in the people, one resorts to terror, destruction, and deceit,” Bartaula said. “That is exactly what Home Minister Aryal is doing, prioritizing conspiracies and personal gain over the welfare of the nation and the public.”
