Bopara, Tanvir and Malan to play for Chitwan Rhinos in Nepal Premier League



KATHMANDU: Chitwan Rhinos have announced that England’s Dawid Malan and Ravi Bopara, along with Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir, will play for the franchise in the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), which is set to take place from November 17 to December 13.

Dawid Malan, 38, has played 62 international matches for England, scoring 1,892 runs with one century and 16 half-centuries. He was part of the England side that won the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup and also represented his country in the 2023 ODI World Cup. In T20 cricket globally, Malan has scored over 10,000 runs in 384 matches, including five centuries and 72 fifties.

Ravi Bopara, 40, is a seasoned all-rounder with 13 Tests, 120 ODIs, and 38 T20 Internationals for England. A right-handed batter, he has scored nearly 10,000 runs in T20 cricket and taken 292 wickets in 494 matches. Bopara, who played across major global T20 leagues including IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, and LPL, was the second-highest run-scorer in the inaugural NPL season.

Sohail Tanvir, also 40, brings extensive experience from Pakistan’s international and franchise cricket. A left-arm medium pacer, he has played 57 T20 Internationals for Pakistan, taking 54 wickets. Across all T20 competitions, Tanvir has played 388 matches, taking 389 wickets and scoring over 2,700 runs.

The Chitwan Rhinos finished fourth in the first NPL season, losing to Karnali Yaks in the eliminator. Ahead of the second edition, the team retained key players including Kushal Malla (marquee player and captain), Rijan Dhakal, Kamal Singh Airee, Deepak Bohora, Amars Singh Rautela, and Gautam KC.

During the player auction, Chitwan, with the league’s largest purse, signed Dev Khanal and Arjun Saud, while adding Bipin Rawal, Bipin Acharya, and Ranjit Kumar from their wishlist.
