PARBAT: Locals from Modi Rural Municipality in Parbat district have come together to repair the Patichaur–Deupur–Lapsibot–Bhuktangle road by voluntarily contributing labor, after repeated landslides left the road severely damaged and no government support arrived.
The road, originally opened in 2001, has been plagued by landslides nearly every year, requiring frequent upgrades and repairs. This year, a massive landslide from Korunga Banama in Deupur, as well as another from Dobato, washed away nearly two kilometers of the road, making it impassable for vehicles.
With no external assistance, residents from Wards 1, 2, and 3 of Modi Rural Municipality took matters into their own hands. Around 400 villagers participated in the restoration effort by donating labor.
“The community has contributed labor equivalent to approximately Rs 400,000,” said Bikash Timilsina, former ward chairperson of Deupur.
The road is a vital lifeline for the area, serving as the main connection between Wards 1, 2, and 3 and the rural municipality center in Patichaur, as well as the Pushpalal Mid-Hill Highway. With the road restored just ahead of the Dashain festival, locals are hopeful that travel will now be easier for those returning to the village.
Previously, a Rs 3.3 million landslide control project had been initiated by the Land and Watershed Management Office, but the effort was halted after a heavy landslide in Ashar last year washed away the partially completed work.
Despite repeated setbacks and limited institutional support, the villagers’ commitment to rebuilding essential infrastructure highlights the strength of community cooperation and resilience in rural Nepal.
