Kathmandu–Guangzhou direct flight to begin Thursday

KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), the national flag carrier, is set to commence direct flights between Kathmandu and Guangzhou, China, starting Thursday (September 25).

This marks the first time NAC is operating a direct flight service on the Kathmandu–Guangzhou–Kathmandu route. Executive Chairman Yubaraj Adhikari confirmed that all technical preparations for the new route have been completed and necessary flight permissions obtained.

The one-way airfare from Kathmandu to Guangzhou has been fixed at Rs. 30,000, with return tickets priced at Rs. 50,000.

Chairman Adhikari noted that the launch of this route follows sustained efforts to expand connectivity to one of China’s key cities. NAC also revealed that it is working to introduce direct flights to South Korea and Australia in the near future.

Currently, China Southern Airlines operates regular flights on the Kathmandu–Guangzhou route, alongside Nepal-based Himalaya Airlines. Given the significant number of Nepali travelers to Guangzhou, the new route is expected to be financially beneficial for the Corporation.

With the addition of Guangzhou, Nepal Airlines now serves 11 international destinations across nine countries. Its fleet of two narrow-body and two wide-body aircraft currently operates flights to Doha (Qatar), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Dubai (UAE), Hong Kong, Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore (India), Bangkok (Thailand), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), and Narita (Japan).

The Corporation emphasized that these international operations not only contribute to national pride but also support Nepal’s diplomatic outreach and tourism growth. It expressed confidence that the new Guangzhou route will further strengthen these goals.
