Ishwar Pokharel tells Bidya Devi Bhandari to stay strong amid challenges

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Senior Vice-Chair Ishwar Pokharel has called on former President Bidya Devi Bhandari not to lose morale in the face of possible political challenges.

Speaking at the inauguration of Bhandari’s new contact office in Thapagaun on Thursday, Pokharel stressed the need to continue the ideological purification initiated by the late UML leader Madan Bhandari.

He clarified that the People’s Multi-Party Democracy (PMPD), advanced by Madan Bhandari, should not be dismissed as a seasonal or temporary idea.

“We are not mere bearers of an idea by wearing a cap. We must be able to implement PMPD in practice,” Pokharel said.

Calling PMPD a product of Marxist ideological evolution, he noted that challenges are natural when standing firmly in its defense. “Challenges will always come. There is no alternative but to face them,” Pokharel remarked.

On behalf of the UML, Pokharel encouraged Bhandari to accept inevitable obstacles and move forward. Offering reassurance, he said, “Do not let your morale weaken because of challenges. We have come this far only by facing them head-on.”
