Maoist Centre presses govt to take firm diplomatic steps on border dispute

KATHMANDU: The main opposition Maoist Centre has called on the government to take strong and effective diplomatic steps to safeguard Nepal’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in response to the recent trade agreement between India and China that involves the use of Lipulekh.

Speaking during the House of Representatives session on Thursday, Maoist Centre Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey urged the government to register a firm objection and move forward with impactful diplomatic and political initiatives.

“We strongly object and protest the agreement said to have been reached without Nepal’s knowledge,” Pandey said. “On behalf of the main opposition, we sincerely urge the government of Nepal to stand firmly in defense of national sovereignty and integrity, and to take effective diplomatic and political initiatives with both neighboring countries.”

The Maoist Centre also demanded that the government brief Parliament on the details of the agreement reached between India and China regarding trade through Lipulekh.

“We request the government to provide necessary information to this House, which represents the people, on this matter,” Pandey added.

The Maoist Centre further appealed to the general public to remain united in defending Nepal’s sovereignty and national interests.

“In such a situation, strengthening national unity is essential. Through the Speaker, we appeal on behalf of our party for all Nepalis to come together to protect sovereignty, integrity, and the national interest,” Pandey said.
