KATHMANDU: The Nepal Intellectual Council has called on Nepal and India to resolve their border disputes through diplomatic channels.
In a statement released on Thursday, Council Chair Gajendra Prasad Thapaliya highlighted the importance of a negotiated settlement.
The statement came in response to reports that India and China had reached an agreement at the ministerial level to reopen trade through the Lipulekh route. Expressing concern over the matter, the council emphasized that longstanding and friendly Nepal–India relations should guide the resolution process.
“Considering the historical significance of treaties, facts, maps, and evidence, we urge both Nepal and India to immediately resolve all border disputes diplomatically, strengthening the bonds between the two nations and their peoples,” the statement said.
The council also urged China to clarify its position on the issue, noting that Nepal and India have already articulated their respective stances.
