All four doors of Pashupatinath open for worship

KATHMANDU: All four doors of Pashupatinath Temple were opened for devotees from 3 a.m. today, on the first Monday of Shrawan.

Arun Biset, Chief of the Cultural Conservation Division of the Pashupati Area Development Trust, informed that arrangements have been made to accommodate approximately 500,000 devotees throughout the day, allowing them to enter the main temple and have darshan.

On Shrawan Mondays, followers of Vedic Sanatan Hinduism observe a fast and perform ritualistic worship of Lord Shiva. Devotees began gathering at the Pashupatinath Temple premises, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, starting from 3 a.m.

The trust has announced that tickets priced below Rs 7,500 will not be issued for special worship during the month of Shrawan. On this occasion, women especially observe fasts and worship the Shiva temple with great devotion.

Since the month of Shrawan and Mondays are considered sacred to Lord Shiva, it is believed that bathing, worshipping, and visiting the Shiva temple early in the morning will fulfill one’s wishes and bring unwavering good fortune.

The Marwari community has arranged free food for devotees visiting the Pashupatinath area, and this service will continue on days other than Mondays.

Additionally, the trust has introduced free bus services on the ring road for devotees visiting Pashupatinath on Shrawan Mondays starting this year. Four buses will circulate the ring road to serve devotees, and this service will continue on all four Mondays of Shrawan.
