Despite RSP and RPP protest, House continues budget deliberations

KATHMANDU: Despite ongoing protests from the opposition Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), the House of Representatives proceeded with discussions on the budget allocations for various ministries on Saturday.

RSP lawmakers stood in protest by surrounding the well of the House, demanding a parliamentary probe into the visit visa scam. However, Speaker Devraj Ghimire continued House proceedings in the usual manner, allowing the budget session to move forward.

Earlier in the day’s meeting, RSP lawmaker Sumana Shrestha and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Roshan Karki delivered their party positions on the visit visa issue.

Shrestha criticized the ruling coalition for not listening to the opposition’s concerns, while Karki reiterated her party’s demand for Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s resignation over the scandal.

The RSP had boycotted Friday’s House session, and the RPP has been boycotting the parliament for several days. The RSP’s continued presence in the House today—despite protesting—marks a shift from its earlier stance of complete withdrawal.
