Thunderstorms and heavy showers likely today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds continue to affect Nepal, bringing partly to generally cloudy skies across the country.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is occurring in some parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in one or two locations in other provinces.

This afternoon, skies will remain partly to generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in some hilly areas, with scattered rainfall in other regions.

There is a chance of heavy rain at one or two places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. In addition, light rain or snowfall may occur in high-hill and mountainous areas.

Tonight, conditions will continue to be partly to generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected in some areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in a few locations elsewhere.

There is also a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in one or two places within these provinces. Light rain or snowfall may continue in the high-hill and mountainous regions.

The Division warns that heavy rainfall in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces may lead to rising river water levels, flash floods, floods, landslides, and soil erosion.

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to avoid risks or damages to public health, agriculture, daily life, and road and air transportation.
