Khotang authorities issue flood alert for people along Sunkoshi River

KHOTANG: The District Administration Office (DAO) of Khotang has issued a public alert, urging residents living along the banks of the Sunkoshi River to remain vigilant due to the risk of flooding.

The advisory follows reports of potential heavy rainfall and flooding in the Tibetan region of China. Officials warn that rising water levels there could impact downstream areas, including the Sunkoshi River in Khotang.

The Sunkoshi flows through several parts of Khotang, including Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, Diprung Chuichumma, Khotehang, Barahpokhari, and Jantedhunga Rural Municipality.

The alert was issued after the District Administration Office of Sindhupalchowk, upon receiving information from Chinese authorities, raised concerns about flooding. Khotang followed suit and issued its public notice accordingly.

Assistant Chief District Officer Sagar Sah confirmed that all relevant local governments have been informed of the situation. The administration recalled the severe flooding last year, which washed away a concrete motorable bridge at Phoksingtar on the Diktel–Gaighat road section and displaced several local families.

Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions until the risk subsides.
