Police officer honored for assisting pregnant woman in labor in Kailali

KAILALI: A police constable in Kailali has been honored for her heroic act in helping a woman in labor who was found in distress on the roadside.

Chandrika Deuba, a police constable stationed at Khairana Police Post, was awarded with a letter of appreciation and recognition in official records by the District Police Office, Kailali, on Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Balaram Singh Rana presented the award and praised Constable Deuba for her exemplary service.

“I wish to see every police officer honored in this way,” said SP Rana during the ceremony. “This is a clear example that police behavior and conduct can win public trust.”

Deuba assisted Chandra Acharya, a pregnant woman from Thalara Rural Municipality of Bajhang, who was found writhing in labor pain on the roadside in Basantpur, Godawari Municipality-1, on Tuesday. She not only supported the woman during labor but also ensured her safe transportation to Padma Hospital in Attariya.

SP Rana stated that Deuba’s swift and compassionate action led to the safe delivery of the baby and deserved recognition. He added that the police force rewards commendable actions while also holding those involved in wrongdoing accountable.

The incident has drawn praise from the community and is seen as a powerful example of police service going beyond traditional duties to uphold humanity and care.
